What Is Network Security in Information Security?

Network Security in Information Security is a critical part of every organization’s IT infrastructure. But why it is important to understand the basics of network security?

Network Security in Information Security

Network Information Security is the process of protecting network ng network communications and systems. This is through the application of security measures to hardware, software, and data. Information security is a vast field and it requires the knowledge of many different areas.

Network Security in Information Security is a kind of security that protects information from unauthorized access or modification. It includes hardware, operating systems, applications, communication media, people, and procedures. Network security is a very important part of overall IT security.

Also, the term network security refers to all efforts undertaken to protect computer networks and their attached devices. This is from damage and unauthorized access or use. Network security protocols are typically implemented at the lower layers of a network protocol stack (e.g., the link-layer) but may also be applied at higher layers.

In addition to securing computer networks, it is also important to secure telecommunication networks (information assurance) and military networks. This includes industrial control systems or industrial control system cyber threats.

Ensuring Network Security

The primary responsibility for ensuring network security lies with the information owner of each computer or network resource being protected. This responsibility can be delegated to other individuals or groups within an organization. There are such system administrators.

But ultimately lies with the information owner. The owner must take reasonable steps to ensure that the sensitive information they are responsible for protecting is only accessible. This is by those who are authorized to access it and any such access complies with the terms under which such access has been granted.

Failure to do so might result in civil liability in some cases and criminal liability in others. This is such as negligence leads to data theft. So, individuals who discover breaches in network security must attempt to stop such breaches.

This is if they are able or arrange for their cessation if not; in some jurisdictions, this is referred to as “duty to report”.

How does Network Security in Information Security Protects?

Network Security in Information Security protects business resources. This is through policies and procedures. Since it defines how networks are administered and how operations are performed.

It is possible for a single computer, acting as a server, to be compromised by hackers or cracked into. Thus, it exposes all its databases and files directly onto the internet. Also, one way of avoiding this from happening is by applying firewall systems at gateway routers.

This filters incoming requests by source IP address and ports. Also, protects other data checks since a major problem for crackers is that port scanners tend to generate huge amounts of traffic. So, another method that can be used as an alternative method is using firewalls on every single server.

Also, you by workstation connected directly to a high-speed local area network (LAN). This has its internet protocol (IP) address and can communicate with other networks through a gateway router. In this way, the firewall can function similarly to the gateway router.
